Personally, I don't think there should be any defaults if at all possible. I think once people join they should see the top subs and be able to click on the ones that they want to join, like a list.

edit: missed a word.

I agree, no defaults. Default subs create all sorts of power trips/drama/bullshit and allow all sorts of narratives to be pushed out.

I'm going to make a v/atheism sub laden with faux-intellectualism and hate.

Free fedora with subscriptionz.

[–] Unicorn 1 points 5 points <+6|−1> ago

This is a better idea, imo, because then all subs are on an equal playing field. Whatever the majority wants it will get.

[–] exisredditus 1 points 2 points <+3|−1> ago

Absolutely this. The top subs based on activity.

[–] Unicorn 2 points 11 points <+13|−2> ago

No, never ever ever.

Why? Because those whose life narrative dismisses our entire being instantly, will destroy this sub if it was a default.

You must allow those seeking knowledge to come to us instead of forcing it onto their laps.

Conspiracy theories are hardly controversial anymore. We need to wean people off MSM. If they dislike, they downvote. Isn't that how democracy works? We can't silence ourselves just because we make people uncomfortable with harsh truths.

[–] Unicorn 1 points 5 points <+6|−1> ago

If you want to get drowned via hundreds if not thousands of fucking naysays, by all means let us become default. I, however, do not want that hostility in my discourse.

The zeitgeist of the general populace does not accept conspiracies at all.

[–] Persona_Manager [S] 12 points -7 points <+5|−12> ago

Dude, who cares about downvotes? Forcing something that has to organically shape itself is just wrong.

[–] Unicorn 1 points 4 points <+5|−1> ago

I CARE! Does that suffice you? I doubt it does.

Your statement is ridiculous. Curated content is bullshit, we need organic discourse or else it will all be for nothing.

edit: The curation of reddit is why I left it.

[–] Persona_Manager [S] 11 points -4 points <+7|−11> ago

I left because people thought inconvenient truths are too much for the masses to handle. That and shills.

[–] grandmacaesar 2 points 1 points <+3|−2> ago

I think inconvenient truths sometimes have to be forced. People have been taught by god-box that attacking "conspiracy theorists" is noble. We have to carefully cram truth into their eyes and ears. It will no doubt offend some people initially---the people that have been pussified by the msm---but they'll get over it. At the same time, you wake one or two people up.

That's the way it works. For every ten people you try to wake up, only one or two listen. However, those one or two don't go back to sleep, and as converts, they begin waking others as well.

I hear you on this, but you catch more flies with honey than you ever will with vinegar. I don't think you can force feed people this information. Believe me, I've tried. Cognitive dissonance is strong.

What you can do is, when they are willing to listen, spoon feed them info that is pertinent to their lives. This is how you build awareness in those who would normally never question the status quo.

tl;dr: no default subs aka NAY

[–] 2akurate 2 points 11 points <+13|−2> ago

I agree with Unicorn, its not a good idea at all.

[–] ProgressiveRevert 0 points 6 points <+6|−0> ago

Nay, it how Reddit die in the first place. By making defaults.

[–] casualwhoaversereader 0 points 5 points <+5|−0> ago

Nay. Let's not play the "default subs" game here.

[–] spasticbadger 1 points 1 points <+2|−1> ago

Well I can't subscribe so it would be helpful... Any ideas?

[–] exisredditus 0 points 2 points <+2|−0> ago

As I understand it that feature is being worked on. Should be up within a day or so. Grats on being in on the ground floor!
